The blog after the week before…

Even being one of the award organisers doesn't ensure victory...
I can’t quite believe it but it’s already the end of our first term here in Falmouth. The term ended in the best possible way with an amazing Christmas party that included this blog being given the prestigious silver prize for best blog! (well we all start somewhere
) Thanks to the people that have read the blog and it’s nice to know that my thoughts entertain someone other than myself! I was also awarded the prize for biggest tech geek which I’d like to dedicate to my World of Warcraft account……

Winning the Tech Geek award. Lolz ftw
This final week has been pretty stressful and that’s why I’ve not been able to blog as much as I would have liked. We’ve had four exams to get through which went ok but as usual a lack of revision left me walking away feeling as if I could have done better. Thankfully other then exams this week has been the most interesting for quite a while, as we learned the basics of doing Video Journalism. On Thursday we learned how to operate basic TV quality cameras and how to record interviews for TV which was challenging but really fun. Then on Friday, despite being rather worse for wear after the Christmas party we learned how to use AVID, a video editing software package.
I have to say that it’s nice to learn something completely brand new for a change. Although I’ve learned lots here and in my year out and Lancaster before that, the last 5 years or so have largely been about building on pre existing skills rather then learning whole new ones. However I’ve never done any editing with video nor have I done any pieces for TV so its something new for me that’s also likely to motivate me.
This weekend has largely been a quiet affair as I’ve been saying goodbye to various people from Falmouth and getting ready to head home for a few weeks. I’ll really miss this place while I’m gone as I’ve come to think of it as home and I’ve made some amazing friends. After 10 weeks of seeing the same people six or seven days a week it’s going to be odd to not walk into the newsroom and see the same faces. Never the less I am quite looking forward to getting back to Berkshire and spending some quality time with family and friends and even our dog, who I’ve not seen in eleven weeks now.
The only other notable event to write about has been me and Pete again covering Plymouth Argyle for Pirate FM. We reported on a largely dull one all draw with Queens Park Rangers but it was still good fun. Last week me, Pete and Tommy all went down to the Pirate studios for some further training so that we can do live reports on local rugby in the new year. I’m really really excited to actually have the chance to go to some live sporting events and do some coverage and get some interviews partly because as we’ve not had much chance to flex our sporting muscles on the course so far this year. Whilst I’m not the worlds biggest rugby fan it will be fun challenge and great experience as well as a chance to really hone our reporting and interviewing skills. Also over Christmas I also have a day or two’s work experience lined up just helping out a friend with some freelancing so that should also be good experience.
Finally I’ve also been assigned a project to look at internet regulation so in the next couple of weeks I’ll be blogging on that as well (links to follow)
I don’t have much else to write about today! I’m pretty exhausted from the term so I’m going to go recharge my brain and will hopefully come back and write some more in the next few days!
Take it easy
